The Properties of Elements


Metals

  • Metals conduct heat and electricity.
  • Metals make up more than 75% of the elements on the Periodic Table of Elements.
  • Metals are shiny when polished.
  • When at room temperature, metals are solid.
  • Metals can be flattened or bent without breaking.

Nonmetals

  • Nonmetals are poor conductors of heat and electricity.
  • Nonmetals don't shine when polished.
  • There are 17 nonmetals.

    Metalloids

  • Metalloids are called semi-metals sometimes.

  • Metalloids have some properties of metals and nonmetals.

    Noble Gases

  • Noble gases don't react well with other elements.
  • Noble gases are nonmetals.
  • Noble gases are inert, or in the state of doing nothing.
